JasBulletin June

Here’s a chunk of the latest news from Jasmine Ann Cooray, including events past, present, and upcoming for the summer (?) ahead. It’s been busy and buzzing with more to come!

So……

Poetry Gigs and News…

Roundhouse Poets Senior Slam

May 25th @ The Roundhouse, Chalk Farm

I was honoured to warm up the mic for the Senior Slam 08 featuring alumni from the London Teenage Poetry Slam funded by Lynk Reach, and hosted by Louis Antwi.

Darwin Poets

3rd June @ The National History Museum, South Kensington

I stepped in to write a commissioned poem on the subject of Charles Darwin and his work and theories. Performing to a large and esteemed audience in this beautiful space was something else, as well as in the company of talented writers Yemisi Blake, Natacha Bryan, and Tyrone Lewis, all associated with the Roundhouse Poets programme, and represented by Jacob Sam La-Rose.

Poetry Flocks

10th June @ The Woolpack Pub, 98 Bermondsey Street, London Bridge

An intimate evening of poetry and music, organised and hosted by James Bruce May or Wollow. Check his myspace out here, and if you’re nice he might even send you a poem.

Mother Foucault

14th June @ The Poetry Café, Betterton St, Covent Garden. This is what happens when Burlesque connects with Slam Poetry. Hosted by Joelle Taylor.

The Poet’s Lounge

Thursday June 19th@ The Blag Club, First Floor, 68a Notting Hill Gate, London, W11 3HT
Prepare to be inspired, amazed and enlightened. Artist on the night will be performing from all walks of life!
Entry: £3

The next FLOETICS is now decided for the 23rd July to work around the renovation work at the RedRoaster Coffee House, Brighton, our venue. We’ve been going steady for a year and a half and will not cease the hosting of words, music, new voices, new text and appreciation. Join our facebook group here for regular event updates and to vote on which poster should win this month.

Workshops…

The next WRITELondon workshop will be on Saturday 5th July. The theme for this site-specific creative writing workshop will be Uncovered and Overlooked, looking at secrets, silence, underground communities and derelict space. As with all WRITELondons, I’ll be leading a group of participants around different locations using the spaces as creative stimuli. If you’re interested, drop me a line for more information at gigglyjas@hotmail.com

Lynk Reach Teenage Poetry Slam

I’m assisting Jacob Sam La-Rose as a poet coach on this project. We’re almost finito with the students at Lilian Baylis Technology School, Kennington. It’s been challenging, but we’re now at rehearsal stage, with just a couple of lessons left. Students from last years Lilian Baylis team are coming in to show the newbies what its about. We hope they’ll be inspired and motivated for the terror and thrill of their words on the big stage. Find out more about Lynk Reach and their yearly outreach project here.

Capital City Academy

Just in case you thought one school was enough, I decided to go for another one as well. Working once again with Jacob, we have two year 9 classes in Capital City Academy in Willesden, flexing the students poetry muscles, and working towards creating a body of material for a film, anthology, or both. The school is a glass temple, check it out here.

Take care, big love to all,
